Kundalini Yoga: What It Is and Why You Should Try It

By Kari HardmeyerMarch 21, 20264 min read

If you've only ever done vinyasa or hatha yoga, Kundalini Awakening might surprise you. It's not about perfecting postures or building a sweat — it's about awakening the dormant energy at the base of your spine and moving it through your body's energy centers.

What Happens in a Kundalini Class?

A typical Kundalini Awakening class at Nourish & Flourish includes: - **Breathwork (Pranayama)** — specific breathing techniques to stimulate energy flow - **Kriya** — yogic sequences combining movement, breath, and focus - **Mantra/Chanting** — sound vibrations that shift your energetic state - **Meditation** — guided stillness to integrate the practice

Who Is It For?

Everyone. You don't need to be 'spiritual' or experienced in yoga. Come with an open mind and a willingness to feel. Kari Hardmeyer, our Kundalini specialist who trained in Guatemala, creates a safe, welcoming space for all levels.

What People Experience

Students commonly report feeling: - Deep emotional release - Mental clarity and reduced anxiety - A sense of connection to something larger - Physical tingling or warmth (the Kundalini energy moving)
